On May 17 between 8:15 a.m. and 2:50 p.m., each member of the senior class will defend an original thesis statement on a topic of his or her choice in front of a panel of judges. This annual tradition at DVCS is a consummation of what students have learned during their time at the school as they seek to logically, beautifully, and persuasively express ideas grounded in truth. Students spend time in rhetoric class throughout the school year researching their topics, developing their arguments, and practicing to present in a winning manner.
The following is a list of the thesis statements that the Class of 2022 will defend.
Teni Babatunde: School systems in poorer communities are preparing their students for prison.
Janna Baltar: OTC medication is unnecessary for our physical wellbeing with the use of (natural) alternative medicine and healthy eating habits.
Lydia Brown: Virtual church is incompatible with the biblical conception of church.
David Crossan: The United States Postal Service should be privatized.
Delainey Gray: Quantitative Easing was the right option to combat the economic crash caused by the pandemic.
Faith Hollister: The criminalization of poverty is a significant cause of mass incarceration in the United States.
Kiersten Mengel: De-extinction implementation and techniques are imprudent.
Drew O’Connell: The Delaware system for senior citizen driving permit renewals should be adopted by all other states.
Richard Turley: Fast fashion is harmful to our society.
Josh Walker: Many arguments for a penal system centered on rehabilitation are flawed.
We invite you to attend the presentations of these theses on May 17 at Delaware Valley Classical School. Please see this schedule for more details.
