House System

The DVCS House System is akin to those of traditional European boarding schools, where Upper School students are forged into a team overseen by invested faculty. Our House System is designed to cultivate a rich student culture with leadership opportunities for older students and discipleship for younger students. At the end of 6th grade, students are welcomed into their new house and participate in their first house games.

In addition to providing occasion for mentoring and encouragement, houses competes in friendly competitions throughout the school year fostering Christian character and joyful competition. Students have the opportunity to earn points for their house through academics, athletics, musical performance participation, Bible memory, behavior, and service. We have seen God use the House System to strengthen our school culture and develop Christ-like character.

Each house is named after an intellectual and inspirational figure from western history who embodies ideals we aim to instill in our students: Edwards, Kepler, Kuyper, and Wilberforce. These names celebrate the unique ways Christians can influence the culture for Christ. While house assignments are not based on personal characteristics, we hope students will be inspired to pursue excellence and glory for God following the example set by their house’s namesake.
